Moving Doesn't Have to Be Stressful

The big day has arrived and you and the hubby have decided to put the house up for sale and to downsize. All you have to do now is call the Realtor and put it on the market; right after you clean the carpets, paint the walls, fix the broken step and pack.

PACK! Oh no, that was the part I dreaded the most. What to keep, what to get rid of and where to go with what is left!

Moving doesn't have to be a stressful event in your life. It can actually be something to look forward to and the anticipation of starting a new part of your life can be at the forefront of your mind.

We are all excited when we make the decision to move; the anticipation of something new in our lives is a great feeling. Then, reality sets in and we remember all of the things that have to be done before that move will happen. Now, we are starting to get depressed because we have just figured out that there are not going to be enough hours in the day or days in the week to get this all finished as good as we would like it to be before moving day get's here. We sure do go through a gamut of emotions when we make that major decision to move and we add to the stress by going over everything in our minds a million times or more.

I remember our last move, it was organized and a blessing in disguise; the only part that went wrong was that we had so many people helping that didn't read my labels. However, I did learn something for the next move in our lives. The next time, I will be at the new house when the boxes arrive and I will see to it that the labels actually are read and then deposited in the proper place.

I guess we all learn from experience and every move is another experience but the best part is that every time we get a little wiser.

There is a certain amount of moving that is always out of our control, however, if everything is planned, labeled, cataloged and packed the right way; even that can be dealt with in a humorous way.

I had boxes in the garage that should have been in the bedroom, the box with all of my important bathroom things in was down in the basement and the clothes were in the wrong closet. Other than that, the day went great!

After we moved everything in to the new house, we had a big barbecue for everyone that helped, set up the bed and just relaxed. Unbelievable isn't it?

The hint to an easy move is to be prepared! Have plenty of boxes and bubble wrap, paper for writing your lists, paper for making labels and plenty of tape and Sharpies.

Make a plan for each room and a list of groceries for at your new home; who to contact with change of address information and connecting and disconnecting services, make a plan for your pets and don't forget to include a list for the kids (they want to be involved too).
