Ace Hole-in-one.
Approach
Shot hit to the green from the fairway or rough.
Back Nine
Final 9 holes on a 18-hole course
Ball Mark
Mark made by the ball when it lands on the fairway or green.
Ball Marker
Small object (coin) used to mark the ball’s position on the greenbefore the ball is picked up (prior to putting).
Beach Sand bunker.
Birdie Score of one under the par for the hole.
Bogey Score of one over the par for the hole.
Bunker A grassy or sandy hollow that creates an obstacle on the course.
Caddie A person who carries a players’ clubs; assists in deciding distanceand club selection; assists in lining up a putt.
Cart Powered buggy that transports players and their clubs around thecourse (maximum of 2 people to a cart).
Chip Low shot normally played from near the edge of the green to the hole.
Cup Hole in the green where ball is putted into.
Dance Floor
Putting green.
Divot Piece of turf removed when the shot is played.
Double Eagle Term for three under the par for the hole.
Drive The first shot from the tee box.
Driver The longest club; the #1 wood.
Eagle
Terrm for two under the par for the hole.
Fairway Area between the tee and green; grass is usually cut low.
Flagstick A stick with a flag on top used to mark the location of the hole on thegreens; also called “the pin.”
Foursome Group of 4 playing together.
Free DropBall dropped without penalty away from an immovable obstruction.
Front NineFirst nine holes of an 18-hole golf course.
GreenArea for putting ball in the hole.
Green FeeThe cost of playing the course.
Handicap
The handicap is based on the average scores of a player against the course’s total score. A handicap allows players of different abilities compete on equal terms.
HoleTerm for area between the tee and green. Also the specific term for the “hole” on the putting surface.
Hole-in-OneA shot from the tee that finishes in the hole.
IronA metal club that is not a wood.
Lie
The position of the ball at rest.
Lip-OutWhen a ball hits the edge of the hole, but does not fall into the hole.

Mulligan
(A friendly gesture) Given when a player is able to replay a shot on a hole.
19th Hole
The Clubhouse bar players go to after a round.
O.B.
Out-of-bounds.
On the Dance Floor
When the ball lands and stays on the green.
