We are very pleased to welcome Mirabai to our talented group of featured columnists! Mirabai is one of the leading authorities in the Health & Fitness industry, and public health activist specializing in preventive and rehabilitative exercise.
She has designed fitness programs for populations traditionally underserved by health clubs: children, teens, women, new exercisers, baby boomers, seniors as well as exercise protocols for people with special concerns like heart disease and cancer. She created Women's Heart Plus™, a cardiac rehabilitation program designed for women; Skeletal Fitness®, a osteoporosis prevention workout; Pumping the Prime™, a strength-training program for people in mid-life; Moving Free®, a mind-body workout that combines aerobics, stretching and meditation, and Flomotion™ a low intensity movement program to increase aerobic capacity and flexibility ideal for those combating muscular atrophy, fatigue, effects of chemotherapy, and loss of range of motion.
Her Moving Free® approach to exercise is designed to provide a movement experience so pleasant it doesn't feel like work. Virtually anyone can ease into the best shape of her life by simply Moving Free® along with Mirabai.
She is a member of the American Heart Association Committee on Preventative Cardiology, and the Women's Heart Health Initiative and has been a speaker at major health and fitness organizations including American Heart Association, Education Coalition of the NJ Interagency Council on Osteoporosis, National Wellness Association, NJ Foundation of Aging, National Arthritis Foundation, NIKE Women's' Symposium, The National Institute for the Clinical Application of Behavioral Medicine, Metro Sports, HIRSA, Club Industry, IDEA, East Coast Alliance, AAHPERD, Mind Body & Medicine and Women’s Health Symposium, 92nd Street Y.
Mirabai is certified by the American Council on Exercise (ACE), the Aquatic Exercise Association, holds 2 certifications by the American College of Sports Medicine (A.C.S.M.), and a Medical Exercise Specialist certification from the American Academy of Health & Fitness Professionals. Currently, she is Director of Fitness & Wellness Programs at the 92nd Street Y, in New York City.
