Simplify the Digital Hearing Aid Experience: Questions to Ask Before Purchasing
Purchasing a digital hearing aid is an important step in obtaining increased quality of life for people with hearing loss. There are many things to consider when deciding on the right hearing aid, such as brand, quality and price, but one of the most important considerations is the quality of the hearing aid provider, and the level of customer service it offers to clients throughout the life of the digital hearing aid.
Accept Nothing Less than the Best Customer Service
We have all dealt with the pain of poor customer service at some time in our lives. A quality product can quickly turn into a hassle if the provider does not offer consistently fair and reliable service. This is especially true with products that influence and affect daily living as much as a digital hearing aid. It is essential that you understand the level of service that can be expected of a hearing aid provider before you purchase, rather than face an unpleasant surprise later because you did not do your research.

in Women Age 50 and Older
By Connie Limon
A study of more than 6,000 Canadian women concludes osteoporosis drugs called anti-resorptive agents help reduce risk of low-trauma bone fractures in women age 50 and older. Examples of anti-resorptive drugs include:
Estrogen
Bisphosphonates
Selective estrogen-receptor modulators
Calcitonin
The study began seven years ago. The group of women in the study was asked about their use of anti-resorptive agents and the women's bone mineral density was measured at the beginning of the study.

Back Pain starts with Poor Posture!
By Steven Hefferon
Q: I don't have back pain, but when I look at myself in the mirror, my back and shoulders look rounded. Is that just bad posture?
A: Well, Sue, let me help you understand what you're seeing. First of all, I don't think people really grasp what the term "posture" means. For instance, you're seeing yourself as you are today, but your posture is the result of how you were years ago-maybe even decades.
What does that mean? Your posture, good or bad, is a result of your lifestyle. In other words, your habits, pattern, positions-the things you do every day.

Health Care War Hits America's Retirees Hard
(ARA) - Twenty million American retirees are among the largest group of casualties in the war being waged by their former corporate employers against workers' and retirees' earned heath care benefits.
This tug of war over the future of retiree health benefits is by no means a mere skirmish, but one affecting as much as 40 percent of Americans ages 60 and over, and tens-of-billions of dollars in health costs each year.
Major American corporations have taken the stance that they can no longer afford to stay competitive and sell their products and services in a global economy while paying benefits to retirees, even if these were contractual commitments made to retirees in their working years.

Pilates for the Older Adult
By Jennifer Adolfs
Why Use Pilates?
Pilates is a perfect form of exercise for older adults because it is low impact compared to other forms of exercise, which means it is not as severe on the joints as most workouts. It focuses on breathing and quality-controlled movements, not repetitions.
Conventional workouts focus on how many repetitions you can do and how much weight you can lift, which tends to build short, bulky muscles, which are more prone to injury - especially in older adults.
Pilates works the "Core", elongates and strengthens the muscles at the same time, which, in turn, improves joint mobility and elasticity. In effect it is a kinder and gentler way to exercise for the older adult who doesn't need to be beaten down.

The Future, Today: Digital Hearing Aid Industry
Transitions to Patient-Focused Model
By Henry Smith
The technology to purchase hearing aids online has revolutionized the digital hearing aid industry. In the past, those who were hard of hearing sought care through a system that was centered on the provider. The patient made an appointment, traveled to the clinician's office, sat through a battery of hearing tests, spent hours being fitted for an appropriately-sized hearing aid, only to leave empty-handed because the hearing device still needed to be manufactured and shipped. When the hearing aid finally did arrive, if it was not adjusted properly, the patient was back to square one. Now, picture a time when you can go order hearing aids online, emailing the manufacturer your hearing test, ordering a state-of-the-art digital hearing aid and having it shipped directly to your house. When it arrives, most hearing aids will be ready to use right out of the box. If it is not properly adjusted, you sit down in the comfort of your own home with your free, manufacturer- provided software and, with the help of some virtual guidance, tweak the hearing aid until it is just right. Sound like the future of hearing aid delivery? It is called the patient-focused hearing aid delivery model, and thankfully, the future has arrived.
